Doctoral project: Activist memories and mnemonic activism in opposition to fatalism: a study of the podcast Memórias Quebradas
Pablo Pamplona, a doctoral student at the Universidade de São Paulo, is a visiting doctoral fellow at the HCIAS and the HCIAS Doctoral Research Group “Communication and Society in Ibero-America”. For his research stay at the HCIAS, Pablo holds a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, Brazil).
Pablo holds a master’s degree in social psychology from the Universidade de São Paulo, and a bachelor’s degree in social communication from the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais, both in Brazil. He is also involved in organizations, such as the Forum in Defense of Life, the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto (Homeless Workers’ Movement), and with the Centro de Memórias das Lutas Populares Ana Dias (Ana Dias Memories’ Center of Popular Struggles).
In his doctoral project, Pablo follows the production of a podcast, Memórias Quebradas, which emerged from a social forum located on the outskirts of São Paulo. The podcast’s main objective is to accessibly share information about the memories of popular struggles in their territory. Pablo investigates the ways in which the producers chose to communicate these memories and highlights the memory practices of social movements as a form of historical awareness and opposition to the fatalistic attitude. Pablo’s research stay at the HCIAS is supervised by HCIAS Prof. Dr. Francisco Moreno-Fernández.
