Natalia Messer Molina

Natalia Messer Molina is a doctoral student at the HCIAS and the Faculty of Modern Languages and a member of the HCIAS Doctoral Research Group “Communication and Society in Ibero-America”. She is a scholarship holder of the Landesgraduiertenförderungsprogramm of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Natalia Messer is a Chilean journalist and has an M.A. in international media studies from the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, the University of Bonn, and DW Akademie in Bonn, Germany. In 2013, she completed a bachelor’s degree in social communication at the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción (UCSC), Chile, where she also graduated at the top of her class.

Since 2014, Natalia has been working as a lecturer in Chilean universities, where she has been teaching courses pertaining to podcasting, new narrative media, and digital media. As a journalist, Natalia has traveled around the world and published regularly in international media such as BBC Mundo, Deutsche Welle, the podcast Radio Ambulante, WDR5, and WDR Cosmo in Germany, as well as in the Chilean press, Canal 13 Television, and Revista Domingo of the newspaper El Mercurio.

Her research interests focus on cultural, historical, social, and indigenous movements in Latin America. Her doctoral research project at the HCIAS is entitled “Political participation of audiences in digital media during the social movements of 2019 in Latin American countries”, and is being supervised by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Pablo Porten-Cheé.
