Ana Gómez-Pavón Durán

Ana Gómez Pavón is a doctoral student at the HCIAS and the Faculty of Modern Languages and a member of the HCIAS Doctoral Research Group “Communication and Society in Ibero-America”. She is currently a scholarship holder of the Landesgraduiertenförderungsprogramm of the state of Baden-Württemberg. She has also been awarded a two-year scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). 

Ana holds a degree in English Studies from the University of Valencia, where she also completed a Master's Degree in Advanced Hispanic Studies and a Specialization Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. She has professional experience as a teacher of Spanish for immigrants and refugees and as a teacher of Spanish Language and Literature in Spanish Secondary Education. She has also collaborated as a member of the University of Valencia in the project “Multilingualism in School and Higher Education,” which is part of the European initiative FORTHEM Alliance. Additionally, she has participated as an associate researcher on the project “Culture and internationalization in Spanish” of the Spanish Observatory of the University of Nebrija.

The impact of family language policy on the competence of heritage speakers of Spanish in Germany.

This ongoing doctoral project investigates the correlation between the level of linguistic competence among Heritage Speakers and various sociolinguistic factors that encompass their social context and are ultimately managed within the family in both direct and indirect ways. These factors include sociodemographic characteristics, language usages and practices, parental language skills, and linguistic attitudes. 

This work thus contributes to the research project on the demography of the Spanish-speaking community in Europe at the HCIAS, “El Español en Europa”. Ana‘s cotutelle Ph.D. project is supervised by HCIAS Prof. Dr. Óscar Loureda and Prof. Dr. Mercedes Quilis Merín of the Universitat de València, Spain.
